Final Project

The year is coming to an end, which means the Digital Media class was trying to determine what our final project should be for finals week in December. Our professor made the suggestion that we should choose our own project and if it impresses him, he will accept it. Being the smart-ass I am, I asked if I had my project done by Friday (Today – November 18th) if I could be dismissed from class for the rest of the semester with no penalty. Surprisingly, my professor agreed to it and allowed the same chance for all other students.

The project I decided on what a digital painting using Adobe Photoshop. Here is the final image –


I chose this as my project because I’ve always been interested in Digital Painting but never had the chance (or the free time) to try it. This was my first and completed attempt at a digital painting.

Lab 07 – Subnetting

Lab Part 1 Goal –

  • Understand how to build a network and how to assign addresses to each item.

Process –

  • To begin this lab, each of the members were given worksheets to help understand how to build a network. We were given an IP Address to start with, and were asked to find the subnetting mask, 8 subnets, and then assign computer IP addresses, gateways, etc.
  • First, we took the starting IP address and determined it’s class using binary (class A – started with 0; class B – 10; class C – 110). After determining this, we could then begin to find the subnet mask (0 – 255. 0.0.0; 10 –; 110 – Since we needed 8 subnets, we would use the formula 2^n is greater than, or equal to 8. Conveniently, we were able to place 3 in for N. The three digits (111 00000) would add up to 224, creating the subnet mask to be,, or depending on the class. This allowed the first 3 bits out of an 8bit binary to be arranged in any way (000 00000, 001 00000, 010 00000, etc). Doing this would output the 8 subnets needed, using the original IP address. From here, we could determine the rest by adding 1 to the final digit.

Questions –

  • Was the lab successful?
    • For most. Many people were able to understand it; however, I had to learn it on my free time because it didn’t make sense to me.

Conclusion –

  • I still don’t get what half the numbers are used for.

Lab Part 2 Goal –

  • Create a running network in lab

  • Hubs, routers, cables, computers

Process –

  • At this point, I still wasn’t too sure of what was going on. Jereme explained most of it to me (which it still went over my head)

Conclusion –

  • I have no idea what I’m doing.

Radio Show Update

Hello and welcome. Ready to hear about the radio show? No? Well life sucks and that’s not my problem so you’re going to hear about it anyway.

So our class was making this radioshow thing right? Grand. Literally we just messed around for 2 weeks not really working on it and then Thursday we went into the recording studio and pretty much improved the whole show. To be honest I don’t even know if I spelled improve right but I’m just going to keep on with my life because it’s too late and I’m too lazy to hit the backspace key and look up how to spell the word and then type it in again so this is what you get.

Then it was someone’s bright idea to have each person within the class to edit a piece of the recording. It’s only like a 10 minute piece to record but really I just can’t handle that much right now. I don’t even know when it’s due. Tomorrow maybe. Who knows.

Daily Create – Ds106 Rules

Welcome back to yet another exciting ds106 daily create. I am so eager to share this with you. Oh boy. This daily create was.. wait for it… ds106 rules. Wu-hu.

I didn’t feel like going to the site to actually look up one of the ds106 rules because the effort wasn’t there and probably never will be so I just told everyone to have fun and interact with new people even though we all know no one will take that to heart because why would they.
